Your starting point
First compare the full numeric seed and edition. Then check the version that generated the area, dimension and X/Z. If biomes match but a structure is missing, check support for that layer. MapMySeed provides experimental predictions; it does not read your save.

Start with the symptom
This table suggests a next check; it does not establish the cause.
| What happens | First check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Map never finishes loading | Connection and visible error | Reload once; try another browser if it persists. |
| The entire landscape differs | Full seed and Java/Bedrock | Then check version and dimension. |
| Only an old region differs | When it was first explored | Compare newly generated terrain from the same version. |
| Similar biomes, missing village | Structure support for your edition | Check in-game; a marker is not a screenshot. |
| Search finishes with no results | Target, radius, origin and Y level | Expand the radius or move the origin; this does not prove the biome is absent from the world. |
1. Check the seed and edition
Return to the original value using how to find your Minecraft seed. Copy it as text, including the minus sign; avoid spreadsheets that can round long numbers.
Transcription example: 9007199254740993 and 9007199254740992 are different seeds even though only the final digit changes. This is a numeric illustration, not a recommended world.
Select Java for a Java world and Bedrock for a Bedrock world. Changing the map edition to reveal a layer does not make that layer valid for your world.
2. Check terrain version and old chunks
Updating Minecraft does not regenerate every previously explored chunk. One world can retain older terrain while generating new areas under different rules. The version currently shown in the menu may not describe every region.
Record when the area was generated and choose that version if available. Do not treat a nearby version as equivalent. Custom generation, special presets, mods or datapacks can also mean the seed alone does not reproduce the terrain.
See compatibility and methodology for supported combinations. Keep your original world; these checks do not require regenerating chunks.
3. Check dimension, X/Z and Y level
Compare the Overworld with the Overworld, the Nether with the Nether or the End with the End. Use the location’s coordinates within that dimension; do not paste an Overworld portal position as though it were a Nether position.
X and Z locate the point horizontally. Y is height: do not confuse Z with the second number in an X/Y/Z position. Preserve negative signs too.
Biome search uses the map’s Y level and samples every 16 blocks. An underground sample can show a cave biome rather than the surface biome. Small biomes can be missed, and several results can belong to the same biome.
- In-game: X −320 / Y 72 / Z 640
- Map: X −320 and Z 640
- To compare the biome, also check Y 72 and the dimension
4. When a village or structure is missing
Similar biomes do not confirm identical structure positions. MapMySeed does not offer structure layers for Bedrock 26.52; other versions, including 26.50, have different capabilities. Check the compatibility table for your version. Switching to Java is not a valid workaround for a Bedrock world.
In Java, a marker represents a predicted generation position, not verification of every block or the building’s current state. Player modifications are not reflected on this map either.
With permission, check a specific case using the edition-specific commands in the village guide. For a cherry landscape, follow the cherry grove guide and check both biome and height.
5. When the map or search fails to load
Let initial loading finish and read the displayed message. A search that returns no matches differs from one that fails. Check that the selected edition, version and dimension are supported.
Reload once and use a stable connection. If the problem persists, try the same link in another updated browser to distinguish a browser-specific issue from one that reproduces in several. Analytics cookie acceptance is not required to use the map.
If the map works but a search fails, try a smaller radius from the same origin. Do not change the seed, target and version at the same time: you would lose the comparison.
What to include in an error report
Record edition, version, dimension, browser, reproduction steps and the visible message. Distinguish “does not load”, “no results” and “does not match the game”. Screenshots comparing the same point are more useful than a general overview.
Keep these details to reproduce the case. The project page does not yet offer a public contact channel. If you share a seed and coordinates elsewhere, avoid private server data. Analytics does not collect your seed, coordinates or search text; an error event does not let us reconstruct your world.
